Guy Pearse is an Australian author based in Maleny, Queensland. His most recent book is The Greenwash Effect — published by Skyhorse in North America in early August 2014. Previous books include Greenwash: Big brands and carbon scams (Black Inc–2012), Quarry Vision: Coal, Climate Change and the End of the Resources Boom (Quarterly Essay 33: Black Inc–2009), and High & Dry: John Howard, Climate Change and the Selling of Australia’s Future (Penguin–2007). In 2013, along with David McKnight and Bob Burton he co-authored Big Coal: Australia’s dirtiest habit (New South Publishing).
Guy has contributed close to a dozen comment pieces and essays to The Monthly, and many more to various other publications. He is a former political adviser, lobbyist and speechwriter, who grew up in Townsville and was educated at James Cook University (BA Hons), Harvard (MPP), and the ANU (PhD). Between 2009 and mid 2013, he was a Research Fellow at the University of Queensland. To date Guy’s writing and research have focused mainly on energy and environment-related issues, with a heavy emphasis on corporate and political collusion, deception and spin.
